Bryce Ingman doesn’t know anything different. His entire life has been spent under the steel-shod boot of oppression. In this, the Federated Territories of North America, freedom and self-determination are forgotten notions from a dusty past. But there are those who still remember. Follow along as Bryce discovers what it means to be free, how absurd and self-aggrandizing tyrannical governments actually are, and how much politicians and the institutions they create deserve to be ridiculed. At turns poignant, tragic, sarcastic, parodical, and philosophical, Society’s House of Intractable Tension is cautionary tale of what has been and what could yet be if certain elements in society aren’t opposed by those who believe in true freedom.

French Press Sludge - like the residue left at the bottom of a cup, these are stories author Mark Sowers wrote between working on his full-length novels. Sometimes a tale only needs a few thousand words to be told completely, sometimes it takes tens of thousands. These are the leftovers, the ideas that didn't demand a full-length novel, but that in many ways are just as impactful. From the social commentary of Halftime, to the absurd tragi-comedy of Stoner Ghosts, to the anger, despair and destitution of Apocalypse Pancakes and Never in Blue Genes, this collection of stories follows a disparate and entertaining cast of characters as they navigate through worlds dystopian, apocalyptic, true-to-life, and post-life.

The Long Heavy Sigh is about the refusal (or psychological and emotional inability) to change one's mind about ideology. But it's about a few other things too. Ever think about how many of us, despite overwhelming evidence, are so staunchly entrenched in our own ideologies that we ignore, or just don't see, the truth of events happening around us? This short story with images is a little different and encourages people to examine their stubbornness, hard-held ideologies and to question the driving narratives fed to us. We hope you read the blog post and the short story. Enjoy.
